"Brízida is a Swiss artist with Luso-Angolan roots, crafting pop with rhythms and textures drawn from afro traditions, jazz, minimalism and alternative rock. Her songs carry emotional weight without losing their pulse, built on grooves, layers, and atmosphere. With a voice that moves between vulnerability and clarity, she tells stories that resonate on a personal and universal scale. On stage, her songs resonate with quiet intensity, like a truth you didn’t know you needed. Often compared to artists like Fiona Apple, Björk or Regina Spektor, her music holds a tension between rupture and connection; a kind of ritual, both raw and precise. This is not music that tries to please. It touches. And disarms without warning."

Bio

Brízida Torres is a Swiss singer-songwriter whose family roots extend across Portugal and Angola. She discovered music in the intimacy of her bedroom through a modest digital piano. The experience was a revelation, inspiring her to compose nursery rhymes and instrumental pieces from an early age. After years of insisting that her parents enrol her in music lessons, she began studying piano in 2007 at the Neuchâtel Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Véronique Gobet.

At the same time, Brízida sang in a school choir conducted by Jean-Claude Léonard and began developing her vocal skills as a self-taught singer. As a teenager, she also pursued theatre studies and obtained an amateur acting certificate in 2016.

In 2012, she began a Bachelor's degree in Musicology at the University of Geneva while also studying Film History and Aesthetics at the University of Lausanne. During this period, she attended harmony and counterpoint classes with Professor Ludovic Thirvaudey. Following a change of direction in 2014, she undertook a one-year pre-professional theatre programme, which included voice training classes with singer Mallika Hermand.

In 2018, Brízida joined the band Pale Male as a pianist and vocalist, taking part in a European tour between 2018 and 2019. Towards the end of 2018, she launched her solo project and had the opportunity to engage in creative collaborations with artists including Fred Bürki (Sirens of Lesbos, Anna Aaron), Alberto Malo (Sophie Hunger, Jacques Higelin), Félicien Donzé (Félicien LiA, L’Effet Philémon), Hook (Muthoni Drummer Queen, Murmures Barbares), and FlexFab.

During this time, she redirected her piano studies towards jazz, with Federico Monetta and Mélusine Chappuis as teachers, while also beginning jazz drumming lessons with Luigi Galati. In 2020, she further expanded her percussion skills under the guidance of Lucas Gonseth.

Between 2020 and 2022, Brízida recorded backing vocals for Marc Aymon’s project, became the drummer of a French chanson–folk–jazz band, performed various DJ sets - including at NIFFF, Watt Air Jump, Festi’neuch, and Le Pont Rouge - and occasionally accompanied the Neuchâtel-based projects DC & The Marvels and Pale Male as a pianist, backing vocalist, and lead singer.

With a background in communication and sociology, Brízida served as the official interviewer for the Auvernier Jazz Festival from 2016 to 2018 and contributed content to the #Tellement blog at Festi’neuch. Between 2022 and 2023, she completed internships at Pro Helvetia and Swiss Music Export in Zurich while continuing to develop her own musical project.

Today, she performs regularly on stage and on radio broadcasts alongside a collective of musicians including Stéphane Pungi (Jella, Luvanga), Pierre Kuthan (Onirical Blend), Nicolas Pittet (Lee Scratch Perry, Elie Zoé), and Eoghan de Hoog (Elvett, Cousin Marvin). In 2023, she composed her first film score for a short film by Axel Fernandez.

Brízida’s artistic approach places particular emphasis on text-centred interpretation, the relationship between emotion and vocal technique, rhythmic placement, and personal development.
